Today’s Quote Of The Day on President’s Day comes from Will Rogers (1879-1935), a stage and screen star, circus and vaudeville performer, cowboy, humorist, newspaper columnist and social commentator. His humor and folksy style allowed him to poke fun at pretty much everyone, especially politicians, without really offending anyone. In 1928 he mounted a mock presidential campaign as the “bunkless candidate” of the Anti-Bunk Party to prove his assertion that all campaigning was bunk (wack). He said, “Our support will have to come from those who want nothing and have the assurance of getting it.”
His only campaign promise was that, if elected, he would resign. On election day he kept his promise after declaring victory and resigned. Tragically, Rogers died in 1935 at the age of 55 in a small airplane crash in northern Alaska.
Which fool and his money do you think will soon be elected?
