Ironic, Coincidence, Copying, Flattery or Sarcastic?
I couldn’t help but notice that the cover of Roger Kreuz’s new book Irony and Sarcasm features a VERY similar design as my book Free Love – True Stories of Love and Lust on the Internet about online dating published in 2010. It features the same “winky smiley face” emoticon used on my front cover.
(Hey kids: emoticons are icons comprised of keyboard characters such as the “smiley” :-) which preceded what you now know today as emojis. Emojis are way more cool and a lot more versatile than emoticons because there are so many options, while emoticons are limited to keyboard characters. And no one ever made a “meh” movie about emoticons.)
Anyway, they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery so I guess I should be flattered. Maybe it wasn’t even on purpose. I don’t know. I guess I’ll chalk it up as an unexpected coincidence. At least he used a different font.
I just found it a bit ironic.
That said, I shouldn’t really complain too much since I borrowed my book cover design idea from the movie Pi.
